I love everything about this couple, their fabulously cute {click to read} story, their amazing chemistry, their jaunt along the Hudson River and through Greenwich Village. I love it all. The shoot really tells such a warm and cozy tale about being young and in love in New York.
About the photographer: Betsy Van Langen grew up as somewhat of a paparazzi within her home, yet didn't take her first photography class until she was an undergraduate at Loyola College in Maryland. After graduating in 2008 with a degree in Fine Arts, she attended the Post Baccalaureate Program at Maryland Institute College of Art. She is currently getting her Masters in Photography at Rutgers University. Her fine arts background allows her to mix creative and stylistic elements with timeless and classic imagery... As a kid, she always wanted to created pictures that people would keep and love forever. Now she does just that.

When we initially planned our destination wedding, we initially considered a cruise ship wedding. In theory, cruise ship weddings offer the best of both worlds – the ability to get away, while still having all the convenience of a wedding back home.
As we conducted our research, we were extremely disappointed with the options available from the cruise companies. Most cruise lines don’t want you to be able to get married “on board,” instead they offer packages before you leave (before the boat leaves home port) or during the voyage on their private island. We also found it difficult to get information from the cruise lines and nearly impossible to get someone to actually answer questions. But that was our experience.
If you are not dissuaded by our experience, the recent wedding of Andrew and Emily Pidgeon of Palm Bay, Florida should be required reading. We’ve never actually seen a cruise ship wedding and can’t speak from personal experience. We wanted to write about cruise ship weddings in 2007 and contacted a number of cruise lines, but weren’t able to get a response. Perhaps in the future we’ll have the ability to see one and write about it firsthand.
In summary: Cruise companies are willing to accommodate your wedding…for a price. However, cruise companies are not set up to really cater to your specific wedding needs. Cruise companies can give you a wedding-from-a-box experience, but you need to ask yourself the question if that is really what you want.

The video killed the radio star. And the Internet killed the travel agent. Or so, that’s what we thought.
Like most people, several years ago we gave up on the travel agent, the paper tickets, the hassle of telephone tag and the fees travel agents charge. Like most people, we moved exclusively to web-based services. And for a while, it worked real well for us. More specifically, it worked well for very simple travel plans.
Looking back on our wedding planning experience, our single biggest time investment was researching locations and travel logistics. Looking back, we should have brought in professional travel agent who deals in destination weddings to help simplify the process. We knew we wanted the Caribbean, but it had to have reasonable flights from New York, Philadelphia, Dallas and Denver (where most of our guests were coming from). A professional travel agent could have narrowed down the field considerably and then we could decide on the location from there.
Another challenge we had was all of the guests making their own travel arrangements. The bridge’s grandmother used her favorite travel agent – and despite the very specific wording on the invitation – the agent ended up sending her to Nassau, Bahamas instead of the correct location on Grand Bahama Island.
Our concern with utilizing a travel agent is that they push the venues and packages where they make commissions or where they are most comfortable…not necessarily what is in your best interest. So, it’s critical to find a vendor you feel comfortable with.
So, we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered the Caribbean Journey Destination Wedding Blog. The woman, Laura Sangster, is a travel agent, but also planned her own Caribbean destination wedding. While, we have not actually used her to plan either our own destination wedding or any travel (so therefore cannot actually recommend her), we’ve been impressed with her thoroughness, aesthetic, and quality information. We are trying to get a scuba dive trip together for later in the year and may use her, so we’ll let you know how it goes.
When you are just starting the process, the idea of planning your own destination wedding can sound like a lot of fun – dreaming of all those fancy resorts and beautiful beaches. We thought so too, but the stress it caused between us was considerable. In retrospect, having someone help us and make the process much more manageable would have been a good idea.

I came across the glitttery and glamorous wares of CandyBand Accessories during Fashion's Night Out last month and immediately snatched up one of their headband/belt pieces for an upcoming Roaring Twenties themed charity event. However, it wasn't until I visited their {tres fun} site that I connected with partners Sarah and Adina about their expanding bridal collection. It's so retro and feminine; I adore it.

In August of 1964, the Beatles played at the Forest Hills stadium in New York and stayed at the fancy Delmonico Hotel on Park Avenue.
When they arrived at the hotel, Ringo was mobbed in the lobby and not only had his shirt torn off, but also his beloved St. Christopher's medal.
In this video, Beatle fan Angie McGowan returns the medal to Ringo and all's back to "normal" with the Fab Four. Cousin Brucie and Scott Muni from WABC Radio do a live broadcast of this and you can hear the screams from the fans outside the building! Paul McCartney pays a surprise visit.

Thankfully, there are number of vendors that provide easy-to-use website systems for reasonable prices (less than $75 for a year). If you can write an e-mail, you can do a website with these companies. Some good vendors are:
Wedquarters (we used them; they can also burn it onto CD later for a keepsake)
On your wedding website, you can tell your guests important details of your wedding including:
Travel information
Hotel booking
Photos of venue
Ideas of other activities in the area (golf, scuba diving, sightseeing, etc.)
Engagement photos
Links to registries
Now, many people use blogs for this purpose. However, your guests don’t care about all the details and don’t want to sort through the blog chronologically. These websites make it much easier to present the information topically.

If you’re having a destination wedding with guests, you might have a post-wedding reception. Some resorts cater to this better than others (more on receptions in another topic).
At our destination, we chose to have a seated dinner in a private room. One of the options was a DJ and this led to a spirited discussion “To DJ or not to DJ.” In the end, we decided against the DJ and did it ourselves. Laura brought her iPod and we purchased a Logitech mm50 speaker at Costco. The April 2007 issue of Smart Money magazine reviews five different speakers, with the Apple iPod Hi-Fi receiving top rankings (price is $350).
Depending on where you are going, there might be a reasonable nightlife where your group can go and save on the DJ. At the Westin Our Lucaya, the resort did not have a nightclub, instead they turned one of the restaurants into a rather sedate disco (fine by us since we wanted a laid back wedding). At the Iberostar Paraiso complex on the Mayan Rivera in Mexico, they had a nice little nightclub with a large dance floor where groups were welcome. It's best to check in advance on what the facilities are like at your location.

I've always been enamored by the famed French patisserie Ladurée. Their signature celadon packaging is just to die for, and their creamy ganache-filled macarons are so heavenly, it's no wonder Monique Lhuillier designed an entire collection around them. With that in mind, I thought a little ode to Laduréewas overdue.
