Nearly all of the major cruise ship lines offer weddings these days. We briefly looked into this for our destination wedding, but had trouble with the logistics (too many family members coming from too many different places) to make it work.
But Ultimate Destination Weddings will be taking a much-deserved multi-week holiday cruise in December! We’re going to be scoping out cruise ship weddings, ports of call and reporting back in early January! Watch for more details.
When destination photographers Tag7 contacted Merci New York with Barbara and Tim's chic city ceremony, we swooned over all the Manhattan locales, hotels and hot spots they couple swept through in a day's time. {And then we oohed over Barbara's beautiful wardrobe, which was pure YSL perfection}. But what impressed us most were the shots leading up to and following the ceremony. In fact, I've intentionally omitted many actual-ceremony shots {though you can see them here}, to showcase how important "before and after" photos are... So, tip of the day: Be sure to book your photographer several hours before your ceremony begins. Not only will it take time to warm-up to the camera, but the resulting images will be some of your most cherished... the anticipation, the excitement, the early-details. They're priceless.

So he visited often and we discovered New York City together, which made it so special. The ‘theme’ for the civil wedding weekend was to show our family 'our New York' – all the spots, restaurants and shops that we used to go to. We planned it on a whim. The civil wedding was supposed to be in Switzerland in August this year, just before our church wedding, but with everything set for the summer, we wanted something spontaneous and fun. We actually didn’t tell anyone but our immediate families, so it felt more special {plus it was fun to share the surprise when we got back to London}! It’s been a big week here at Merci New York!I had the pleasure of writing for The Plaza’s June newsletter, there was our lovely styling spread on The Wedding Chicks, our friends at Crave NYC wrote a wonderful interview story on our services, and somehow the shoe mega-retailer Piperlime counted Merci New York among their favorite wedding blogs.Wow. To put it lightly, I’m more than humbled by all the love! But, speaking of love, there’s one little piece of press that really hit my heart this week. This Sunday, June 20th {which happens to be our two-year wedding anniversary!}, is also Father’s Day. In honor of dads and their daughters, the editors of Aisledash have compiled some really touching moments between brides and their dads, and I am just over the moon that they selected a moment my dad and I shared during our Father-Daughter dance. My dad means the world to me, and as I am sure many of you can relate, no matter how “grown-up” I actually am, I will always feel like his little girl. Registries can be a daunting task. There's just something so archaic and Emily Post-esque about getting your "bone china 101" learn-on while juggling all the other chic, modern and creative tasks you have on your plate, not to mention that career thing you've been working on.
Take my {unnamed} good friend, for example. Her sure-to-be-breathtaking nuptials are taking place at 632 on Hudson later this summer. Every design detail she's shared has been absolutely stunning and she has been cool and collected through the engagement to boot. {She essentially designed invitations that rival Ceci New York, so long story short, she is fabulous - and English-so I've delegated the below as her unofficial mantra}.
So can you imagine the one thing that set this Manhattan bride into a tizzy? The registry. The girl has every wedding detail cataloged better than the Vogue fashion closet and she ultimately gets nervous about what to register for. Emails go out to the married girlfriends making sure the process is seamlessly orchestrated, timed, inclusive of all necessary items, when honestly, the registry should be the fun part! What New York City girl doesn't like shopping?
But it makes perfect sense. In a city where we are taught to work hard and play harder, it's really no wonder many of us mistake Le Creuset for a little town in the French countryside. And really, who knew they had an bakeware palette that married back to every Goyard handbag on the street? Brilliant, we say!

As you've probably noticed around the wedding blogging world, we've all posted quite a bit about our experiences at the B-List conference in DC. I did mention I would chime in a bit more, so here's another little sneak peek with a new perspective: Some tips and tricks from the B List party that can easily fold into your wedding day details. After all, it must be pretty intense to plan a party for wedding vendors and bloggers and still showcase some fresh ideas. Let's take a look at what the sponsors presented... Perhaps my favorite detail: A prosecco bar. Each station showcased a different prosecco-based cocktail - this one included a pretty fresh herb display. Guests hand picked the herbs and added them to their bubbly. It was such a fresh presentation and would be a perfect accent to a summer wedding.Small raw bar bites and bud vases of fresh spring blooms strategically placed along the food displays. Simple and sweet, but never under appreciated at any cocktail hour.I loved this place setting, complete with a bowl vase of white and green blooms that matched the dinnerware. It was both elegant and fresh; and would make a perfect placecard for a smaller soiree.More from the prosecco bar: This station lured guests with a new prosecco and a splash of their favorite fresh fruit juices or nectar. So chic and indulgent. {And of course, stacked cake stands always make for a dramatic dessert display, especially when placed atop illuminated glass tables}.Try this: Instead of signature cocktails, name your passed hors d' oeuvres for special guests, locales or occassions that are important to you. Here, each plate was named after one of the wedding bloggers at the conference. Nole's tuna tartare was delish!Installation as decoration: The party was held at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, an art center complete with open studios and galleries. This installation of pretty white dresses was currently on display at the venue, but the white dresses almost appeared to be part of the wedding theme. The tip? Let your venue work for you. Be sure to play up its unique accents and selling points to avoid over-decorating your space. Photo booths are great fun {but you knew that already}... Here's a pic of some of your favorite bloggers hamming it up for Smilebooth. Weddings in general, but especially destination weddings, can have a significant environmental impact. Sad, but true. It is important to try and minimize your environmental impact, both for your own personal satisfaction and for future generations.
One way to do this is through carbon offsets or carbon credits. According to Wikipedia: “Carbon credits are a key component of national and international emissions trading schemes… There are also many companies that sell carbon credits to commercial and individual customers who are interested in lowering their carbon footprint on a voluntary basis.” Carbon credits have received some criticism lately (and there have been some scams), so it’s important to do business with a reputable firm.
Essentially it works like this – you pay a little money to a company or nonprofit group to offset some aspect of your life (your car, your household energy use, etc.). The company or nonprofit uses the money to fund projects that generate environmentally-friendly power (i.e., wind power, methane, etc.) – these are projects that aren’t likely to be built, except with the support of people like you and us. The carbon credits are relatively inexpensive and range from $2-15 per month, or $25+ per year.
We are fans of two groups offering this service. The first is a non-profit organization called CarbonFund.org. They also offer a special ZeroCarbon Wedding – an 8-ton carbon offset, for $44. This is tax deductible. The second company is Native Energy. They are for-profit company, but specialize in building new projects (and actually offer specifics on the projects they fund).
We fully appreciate that weddings are expensive and this is probably one time in your life that you don’t have extra money laying around to buy carbon credits. Doing this is important. Please consider it.

It was a beautiful day. Andrea and Brett were great to work with. Videography and pictures were important to them. We started the day out with some great Millennium Park scenes. You can't skip "THE BEAN!" There were literally hundreds of people standing around, taking pictures of the wedding party. How exciting! After that, we headed to Subway for a bite to eat. Then, it was off to the DePaul University Basketball court for a rare opportunity to get video of the wedding party at half court. Pretty cool. Andrea and Brett got married at the St. Vincent DePaul Parish Church, which is absolutely amazing for videography. What a wonderful day!

The secret to perfect roast potatoes is sharp corners -- rounded potatoes will not get as crispy as those with right angles -- then pre-cooking the potatoes until they are almost falling apart. The generous amount of oil in the roasting pan will make for an extra-crispy crust.
The best way to eat sprouts is to treat them like cabbage by separating the leaves and cooking them in butter with smoked bacon, but don't overcook them.
Cooking carrots -- a good tip is to use a saucepan with a glass lid -- it's easier to keep an eye on whether the carrots are catching on the bottom of the pan without having to take the lid off every three minutes. Don't be tempted to add any water; using only butter will stop the flavour of the carrots leaching out.
Make vodka, orange and cranberry sauce a couple of days in advance and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. The fruit sugar and vodka really bring out the fruitiness in the cranberries and give the sauce a kick.

Happy Monday all! I'm about to head across Central Park for a slew of errands and appointments, but before I do, I wanted to share this gorgeous shoot with you. If you're not familiar with photographer Olivia Graham's work, you must go check out her fashion portfolio, stat. Graham does a ton of work for the European glossies, but often shoots on location in NYC. Her streetscape, Central Park and landmark shots are perfect inspiration for any chic New York City engagement session. Enjoy, lovelies!
