Special Moments Between Brides and Their Dads | Aisledash

por | | 0 comments

It’s been a big week here at Merci New York! I had the pleasure of writing for The Plaza’s June newsletter, there was our lovely styling spread on The Wedding Chicks, our friends at Crave NYC wrote a wonderful interview story on our services, and somehow the shoe mega-retailer Piperlime counted Merci New York among their favorite wedding blogs. Wow. To put it lightly, I’m more than humbled by all the love!Special Moments Between Brides and Their Dads | Aisledash But, speaking of love, there’s one little piece of press that really hit my heart this week. This Sunday, June 20th {which happens to be our two-year wedding anniversary!}, is also Father’s Day. In honor of dads and their daughters, the editors of Aisledash have compiled some really touching moments between brides and their dads, and I am just over the moon that they selected a moment my dad and I shared during our Father-Daughter dance. My dad means the world to me, and as I am sure many of you can relate, no matter how “grown-up” I actually am, I will always feel like his little girl.
So mosey on over to Aisledash and take a peek at all the great pictures and sweet daddy-daughter stories; they’re sure to put a tear in your eye. And then come on back over here… We’d love to hear the special moments you plan to share with your dad on your wedding day {or about the memories you already have}! Happy weekend!
xx,
Jacqueline

Merci Inspiration Board No. III- Turquoise & Gold

Merci Inspiration Board No. III- Turquoise & Gold
Merci Inspiration Board No. III- Turquoise & GoldWe fell in love with the turquoise and gold brocade Thibault wallpaper in this foyer photograph from decor pad, and decided to make a board to show how elegant the color combination would be for an estate wedding. Truly stunning.

But admittedly, we don't have an estate-wedding on the roster, so we got a bit self-indulgent and reworked the room's palette in a more seasonal way: the holiday party ensemble! The Rebecca Taylor turquoise and gold jacquard silk-blend dress clearly references the wallpaper and is at Net a Porter, it sits fabulously with Azzedine Alaïa metallic python pumps and a gold cracked leather clutch from Mulberry {both which channel the room's gilded accents}, the Juicy Couture stud earrings are a nod to the spray of bright pink flowers in the foyer, and lastly, we added our favorite shawl from Merci's Monday post {just because we adore it}. Hope you enjoy!

Muriel City Suite from Mae Mae Paperie | Wedding Invitations

mae mae new york city wedding invitationmae mae new york city wedding invitationmae mae new york city wedding invitationmae mae new york city wedding invitationmae mae new york city wedding invitationmae mae new york city wedding invitationLe swoon. I've always loved Mae Mae Paperie, but now that Megan Knight Gonzalez has added a city vignette to her Muriel Suite, I cannot help but be obsessed.
Megan brings a distinct style to her work. She does a wonderful job pairing just the right typefaces that nestle together in just the right way... and her illustrations always suit a theme perfectly, never erring on stodgy or silly, but striking the perfect note for whimsical, elegant and inspired weddings.
I first came across the Mae Mae line several months ago, while scoping stationery ideas for a client... Megan's Muriel Mountain Suite {oh yes, she caters to several locales!} popped up with a small postscript advising "city design coming soon". Of course, I enthusiastically emailed Megan asking her to share her final vision with readers, and I am just so thrilled she's passed this our way last night...
Truly, could this be any more perfect?

Red Carpet Wedding Dress Inspiration

por | | 0 comments

I love the Oscars, or more notably, the red carpet. To me, it's all about the translation of style. How does an editorially striking runway look evolve to become Oscar appropriate? What works, what gets lost in translation... and further, how might a star's stride down the red carpet inspire a bride's walk down the aisle?
I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite runway to red carpet looks from last night. In my opinion, these ladies just rocked the red carpet, oozing style that could easily translate to your wedding day. Hoping you feel inspired! Jenny Packham Wedding DressA Jenny Packham Spring 2010 gown worn by Miley Cyrus. Miley removed the shoulder adornment and a touch of the voluminous petticoat; making a bridal-worthy dress a bit more evening appropriate.
Chanel Wedding DressI adore how Sarah Jessica Parker softened the feel of this couture Chanel gown by adding simple silver bracelets to balance the metallic floral applique on the bustline. While the runway look was pure editorial, SJP's version keeps the attention on the gown's gorgeous draping.Elie Saab oscar weddingA look that needed no revision. Rachel McAdams was absolutely ethereal in this organza and mousseline creation by Elie Saab. The glamorous earrings kept her look young as she floated down the red carpet.
givenchy wedding red carpet dressBrides who are drawn to dramatically full gowns should take note of Zoe Saldana's red carpet style ... Zoe's softly upswept hair kept her streamlined and lean, whereas a down-do would have added too much volume to her tiny frame and distract from her dress. Here, she's perfectly polished in a gown from the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2010 collection . diane kruger wedding red carpet dressDiane Kruger seemed to have modified her Fall 2009 Chanel gown by removing a bit of ruffle from the center of the skirt. Again, a great tip for brides. A good seamstress can modify {almost} every part of a gown. You're paying for the fittings - don't be afraid to ask questions!

Were you inspired by a star I didn't mention? Who were your red carpet favorites?

Real New York Wedding Video | Allyson + Adam at Cipriani Wall St

por | | 0 comments

A picture speaks a thousand words, but as we've shown in the past, some videos say much, much more. Like this one.
Allyson and Adam's beautifully classic, polished and all-out stunning celebration took place at Cipriani Wall Street, the historical past home of the New York Stock Exchange and US Customs House. Guests were serenaded by David Clark and the Renegades, swooned by Artistry in Flowers, and brought to tears by maid of honor Erica's heartfelt speech. The wedding was gorgeous from start to finish, and the details captured by Clark + Walker certainly prove it.
Alisha Clark and Luke Walker travel the world for weddings {and provide most bridal market coverage for The Knot}, but as the husband and wife team attest, there's "just something special about creating gorgeous New York City wedding photography in {their} own backyard."
So take a tissue, sneak a peek and check back with us tomorrow. Merci New York will be featuring Allyson and Adam's stunning wedding photos, which are packed with wonderful city-chic inspiration for your big day.

Real Wedding: Kelly + Jeremy

por | | 0 comments

Oh my goodness, can you say love? Everything about Kelly and Jeremy's wedding just oozes old Hollywood glamour and fifties-style panache. {And can we talk about the tres-007 pool table shot? Amazing}. We were smitten the second photographer Jessica Johnston shared them with us, and couldn't wait to reveal all the beautiful, creative details. Enjoy!Real Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyReal Wedding: Kelly + JeremyVenue: Meadowbrook Hall
Dress: Kenneth Pool
Floral: Emerald City
Lighting: The Lighting Guy

From the bride: Jeremy and I met at Michigan State University in 2001. I always joked with my friends that I wanted to meet someone that was at least 6’3 {I am 5’10 and at least 6 feet in heels} with dark hair and eyes who was intelligent, charismatic and funny. The minute we met, my knees literally went weak because he had all of those qualities and more.

I wanted a wedding with a swanky vibe. Our wedding was classically elegant, but with a twist of some serious fun... I consider myself an old soul and have always loved Frank Sinatra/Rat Pack, so we walked into "The Best is Yet to Come" and our song was "Just the Way You Look Tonight". Lighting was extremely important to me because the cool blues and purples reminded me of an old night club. Our signature drinks were a play on something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

Something Old- Dirty Martini
Something New- Pomegranate Cosmopolitan
Something Borrowed- Screw Driver
Something Blue- Blue Moon Martini

For my dress, I wanted luxurious fabric and a little bit of bling- I think I found that with Kenneth Pool's Degas. I also loved the brooch and bow detail on our Alvina Valenta bridesmaid dresses. The men wore classic tuxedos.

It was truly an unforgettable night and I really appreciate Jessica capturing every moment. They were beyond phenomenal!!!

About the photographer: Michigan-based photographers Nathan and Jessica Johnston create fashion-inspired, photojournalistic images for the stylish bride. Their background in graphic design coupled with a love of film continually influence the moments they capture. Describing their style as "cinematic weddings and lifestyle photography for the modern minded," Jessica and Nathan strive to create timeless images. Their work has been featured in The Knot Weddings, Photo District News, Brides, and Metro Detroit Bride.

Title: Molly Picon in The Wedding Scene from Yidl Mitn Fidl 1936 Yiddish film

from the 1936 Yiddish film YIDL MITN FIDL.
This was filmed once again in Kazimierz, Poland, using local inhabitants as extras. It took over thirty consecutive hours to film, and the food had to be kosher of course as the locals used were all Orthodox Jews. As the filming went on, they ate, and for the successive shots of the table the food had to be replenished. The poverty stricken guests just couldn't understand what was happening, as they thought they had been invited to a real wedding. When one woman asked why so much food they explained that it wasn't a real wedding - only a film. It is possible she had never seen a film, for she said: "Why didn't you tell me that before? With so much food, I could have brought my daughter to get married for real. She has a chassen (bridegroom) but we have no money for a dowry to make a proper wedding." Molly suspected her husband (Jacob Kalich) may have given the woman the money, as later she smiled at Picon and said "Are you lucky to have such a rich husband."
It's a sobering thought to think what would have happened to these people only a few short years later.
