Disney Launches Wedding Gowns

Disney has launched a line of wedding gowns, which I have discussed in Fairy-Tale Wedding Dress? Disney Does Weddings back on February 22. Since I wrote on the topic, Reuters covered the story and has provided a photo (see picture below).

The "news" is that the gowns were debuted on Sunday in New York. The gowns will range in price from $1,500-$3,000.

According to the Reuters story:

The company was encouraged to delve into the high-end wedding business by the 2,000 weddings it hosts each year at its U.S. resorts — Walt Disney World and Disneyland — and its cruise line, according to McFann [Korri McFann, marketing manager for Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons].

Disney hopes to capitalize on soaring demand for destination weddings, in which couples and their guests turn their nuptials into wedding-vacations that often take place at resorts in tropical locations.

HOW I FOUND THIS:

I hadn't yet seen the movie The Beach when I accidentally stumbled onto the song. It was used on a blog by an American foreign exchange student living in northern Japan as the background music to his home page. I had to contact him by email first to find out the name of the song, then I scavenged all over the net. I then found the OST (original soundtrack) recording on an obscure website. I've since heard several versions of this on YouTube, but not this exact version... which I believe is the best!

So I admit. I've been holding off on a secret. {I know, I know, it's definitely not like me to stay tight-lipped around any fab wedding-related details, however}... here it is. Destination Weddings for Dummies

I found another video on YouTube (originally from Brideorama). This one features Susan Breslow, author of Destination Weddings for Dummies.

She offers three tips for people planning destination weddings:

• Find out the local marriage laws – residency requirements vary by country (for example, France is 40 days)
• Prepare for the weather – Breslow says, hope for sun, but be prepared with a backup venue inside

Perfection. Pure and simple. How can you go wrong? {Answer: You can't}.
The Tsar 140 Satin Pumps from Christian Louboutin would have been the answer to my wedding shoe prayers {if I hadn't scoured NYC for a one-off sample pair of Valentino d'Orsay pumps... which I found, thank you very much}. The lace detailing. The floral applique. The grosgrain ribbon trim and large silk white flower right at the peep toe... love.

Point is, these dainty little puppies would have made life that much easier.
And after all this wedding planning stress, you at least owe yourself that, don't you?

Wedding Seasonality

We wanted to talk for minute about wedding planning. And we want to emphasize planning. PLANNING. And we mean it.

Depending on the nature of your destination (a beach wedding, a wedding at an Italian villa in the fall, etc.) there will be certain items that are only available seasonally. Ever tried to find a bathing suit in November for your destination wedding in February? How about flip flops?

It can be incredibly difficult to find some items you might need/want for your destination wedding if it is out of season. These items can include:

• Bathing suits
• Groom’s suit (or apparel)
• Shoes and sandals
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Beach bags for out of town bags
• Beach towels
• Sea shells or other table decorations

As the summer wears on, stores will be having sales on merchandise. If you have a destination wedding this fall, winter or even next summer, you might consider stocking up on things you might need/want for your destination wedding.

Step back and really plan out your wedding. Think about everything you will need. You can save money and ensure you have access to things you might want by buying at the end of the season. But don’t wait too long or you might be out of luck.

Merci Nest | Coralie Bickford-Smith Goes Gatsby

Yesterday we introduced readers to Oheka Castle, a striking historical venue on Long Island's famed "Gold Coast," the area of Gastby-esque mansions along the shore where the fabled stories of great authors liek F Scott Fitzgerald came alive... As a true city-girl, I will admit my only {non-Hamptons} experiences with Long Island have been driving through traffic on 495 {to get to said Hamptons}, and honestly, reading and loving Great Gatsby so much, that I literally have some lines memorized in my head.
So I suppose it's no coincidence {or just the fact that I love, love, love deco style}, that we came across these lovely little finds via Coco + Kelley today {Cassandra, you rock}. Apparently, Coralie Bickford-Smith, {the talented cover designer who dreamed up a flurry of those Anthro-esque vintage book jackets}, has decided to go glam.
How glam? Tres-chic, mega gilded, gold and bold glam.... Just check out her gorgeous deco-inspired covers for the entire F. Scott Fitzgerald collection. Truly, they rock so hard.
And I have to say I'm now even more excited to dive into Fitzgerald's books... on the jitney, through the traffic, and on my way out to those Hamptons.
